As the dude ranches declined in the 1940s, companies like LEVI'S and LEE were forced to shift their focus to different markets. Coinciding with the rise of Hollywood Westerns, denim became a symbol of romanticism for urban crowds. People began wearing these work garments for casual daily wear, creating an opportunity for new designs.

This jacket is based on the **70s "101-J" Rider Jacket**. The original "LEE RIDER Jacket," introduced in 1948, evolved from the 1934 101J. The new "RIDER" style was significantly different and was a **slim-fit denim jacket**, predating LEVI'S slim-fit "3RD 557XX" jacket by about 15 years.
