USMC P44 基本上服役時間非常短暫，約莫1944-1947。
但卻在太平洋戰爭有著特殊的意義和功能，P44 能攜帶手榴彈和其他的物品。
最出名的的後口袋，設計理念是為了放置雨披。
然而關於這個後口袋的來由有相當多種，這邊提供一種我自己覺得相當合理的版本，供大家參考。

在著名的硫磺島登陸照片裡，最後的那位士兵 Ira Hayes 身後的腰帶上，有著對折的雨衣。
相傳於太平洋戰爭裡，許多的士兵都將雨披對折身後，方便隨時席地而座。
爾後在p44上有這個相對應的改良
